Diezani Arrest: ‘No Comment For Now’ From Presidency

The Presidency refused to comment on the arrest of Nigeria’s former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in London.

It was reported on Friday, October 2, that the ex-minister had been detained in London, alongside four other Nigerians, in connection with bribery and corruption allegations.

Hours later the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided her house in Asokoro, Abuja, and sealed the property.

The media aide of the Nigerian leader declined comments on any issue associated with Diezani’s arrest, when contacted.

In particular, Femi Adesina, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, was quoted as saying by Vanguard:

“No comment for now. You can confirm from the security agencies.”

It is worth noting that some Nigerians believe that the arrest of the immediate past minister of petroleum is not unconnected with the new government. Numerous social media users, reacting to the development, are referring to the ongoing situation as to witch-hunting.
