Following the recent criticisms of the appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday defended him stating that they were not chosen on sentiments.
According to The Nation, Mr John Odigie Oyegun, the APC chairman urged Nigerians who are aggrieved by the appointments to remain calm as Pres. Buhari has the right to employ any individual of his choice.
“There have been a lot of unfortunate misinformation and uproar against appointments at this stage. We have two sets of appointments that have been made.

“One set is the personal privilege of Mr. President – as far as his personal staff are concerned,” he said.
The other set has to do with a few important and strategic persons that are going to help him either in the fight against corruption or the fight against insurgency in the Northeast of our country, but this is not where to play the political balancing game.
“These are serious and the President has the right to appoint those he has confidence in because these are the areas where he has made promises to Nigerians.
“But we have thousands of political appointments and he has just made a few appointments while thousands are still waiting.

“The balancing must happen when the political appointments are being made but we must not at this particular point in time with the few appointments say that one must be from the North, one must be from South or from the East; not at this stage,” he said.
Some governors like Mr Rochas Okorocha, the governor of Imo state and Adams Oshiomhole, the governor of Edo state also defended the president stressing that the appointments were given on merit.
The three individuals sworn in on Monday by President Buhari include Mr. Babachir David Lawal as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) ,Gen. Babagana Monguno as the National Security Adviser (NSA) and Mr. Femi Adesina as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Mr Lawal was appointed August 27, Mr Adesina on May 31. and Gen. Monguno on July 13.
