The Nation reports that those affected are the newly appointed 13 local government caretaker committee chairmen, the 64 Development Center coordinators, the deputy chief of staff office to the deputy governor, Fidelix Okpata, and the principal secretary to the governor, Clement Nweke.

Moses Ogodo Ali, the state commissioner for environment, Sabinus Nwankwegu, the state commissioner of economic empowerment and poverty alleviation, and his youth and sports counterpart, Charles Akpuenika, will also lose their salaries and other allowances.

The governor also suspended salaries of some personal assistants, senior special assistants, special advisers and other government officials.

Umahi decided to punish top officials for coming late to the debate on government anti-corruption crusade.

Earlier this year, there was speculation that the Ebonyi state governor was planning to sack some workers of the state government and reduce workers’ salaries.

However, Umani debunked all rumours by saying: “Here in Ebonyi, we are not going to downsize and we are not going to reduce the salaries of workers”.

Umani’s counterpart from Ekiti state also took serious measures to confront perpetual late comers. He showed up unexpectedly at the state secretariat to fish out those officials who came late to work.
