The House of Representatives has called for caution in the ongoing prosecution of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Saraki is facing a 13-count charge slammed on him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
Addressing members of the House on Tuesday, September 29 following resumption from a six week summer recess, the speaker of the house, Yakubu Dogara said: “The barometer of the polity has been on the rise of late because of certain developments concerning the arraignment of the President of the Senate.”
He commended Saraki for submitting himself to the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and members of the House for their maturity in not escalating the issue through media commentaries, Vanguard reports.

“I wish to caution that there is need for great circumspection in times such as this in order to maintain proper focus in pursuit of the common good,” Dogara said.
The speaker said the House was fully in support of the anti-corruption war of the federal government which is aimed at cleansing the polity from impunity and other vices.
On the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy, Dogara said it was a welcome development which would curb revenue leakages and ensure accountability.

He therefore, charged his colleagues to lead by example by being above board to be able to perform their duties of over-sighting Ministries, Agencies of government.
Both Dogara and Saraki had emerged leaders of the Parliament, against the wishes of their party, the APC.
Supporters of Saraki have vehemently condemned his trial. They have described Saraki’s trial as politically motivated, insisting he is being persecuted for flouting the orders of the party.
Saraki is scheduled for trial by the CCT, for false declaration of assets in October 2015. On Tuesday September 29, 83 senators passed a vote of confidence on Saraki.
