Lagos state police command has arrested a woman identified as Victoria for reportedly attempting to use the 4 month old twins of Mrs Ruth Uche, whose husband absconded after she gave birth to them, to swindle a retired police commissioner.

The suspect who is a mother of two, was introduced to the Uches by a neighbour. She had asked the twins parents to allow the children to be featured in a movie. Though the father of the chidlren, Emeka had initially declined, he later agreed on the condition the mother go with them.
Unknowing to them, Victoria wanted to use their twins to extort money from the retired police commissioner who is the father of her former lover.
According to The Nation, she was apprehended Sunday, September 27, at College Road Estate, when she took the babies to the retired police officer’s house, claiming they were his grandchildren.

Mrs Uche and Victoria arrived at the house of the former police commissioner police who was so excited to see his “grandchildren” but when the suspect could not correctly state the sex and age of the babies, he became suspicious.
Victoria had earlier sent the man pictures claiming they were boys and 2 months old. When the retired officer saw the babies, he realised that they were a boy and a girl, and looked much older than two months.
Mrs Uche suspecting something was wrong immediately owned up that they were her babies and provided facts regarding their age and when they were born.
According to the suspect said she wanted to use the twins to get money from the retired officer for her children’s school fees.
She said: “Please I am sorry, have mercy on me. I am a poor widow and I have two children. I begged their parents that I wanted to act film with the twins and the twins’ father told his wife to follow me. I wanted to use them to collect money from the man because I used to date his son after I lost my husband.

Before he travelled abroad last year, I got pregnant for him but I aborted the baby. So, because I needed money, I decided to use the twins and show his father so that I can get money from him and pay my children’s school fees. I did not plan to sell them and I did not know that things will turn out this way.”
The command spokesman, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Joseph Offor, confirmed the woman’s arrest.
Offor further said that investigations were ongoing to be sure the parents did not conspire with the suspect.
