October 1 is celebrated every year by Nigerians because it is the day they gained independence from British rule.
Today, Nigeria is 55-years-old, having being liberated in 1960.

After the bomb explosions which marred Nigeria’s 50th anniversary at the Eagles Square, which used to be the venue for the Independence Day celebration, it has been celebrated at the Presidential Villa.

This year was no different as the Independence Day celebration still held at Villa with President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and others in attendance.
