The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday, October 2, met with the officials of Saudi Arabia over the investigation of Hajj tragedy that claimed hundreds of lives.
More than 50 Nigerian pilgrims lost their lives in Mina, Mecca, in the September 24 incident.
According to NAN, during a visit to South-South and South-East camps in Mecca, Sanusi claimed that the Nigerian side had requested transparent investigation from Saudi authorities.
Saying that he had met with Saudi minster of Hajj affairs on the matter, Sanusi lamented that despite the taken security measures the exercise ended in a horrible stampede.
“Vehicular movements were restricted in parts of Mecca on Arafat and Jamarat days all in an effort to have hitch-free movement to the stone throwing site.
“But unfortunately and as God wishes, there was stampede in one of the road leading to the stoning complex. All of us have our time. No one can spend more than a second when it comes. The stampede cannot be stopped by anyone as that is an act of God.”

It should be recalled that some prominent Nigerians, including professor of Islamic studies Tijani El-Miskin and Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf, the first female editor from the northern part of the country, died in the tragedy.
Many insisted that the authorities of Saudi Arabia should be held responsible for the massive deaths caused by lack of proper organisation.
The pilgrimage hosts, on their part, blamed “some pilgrims with African nationalities” for what had happened.
