#NigeriaAt55: Top 10 Naij.com Independence Day Contest Finalists

The Nigerian Independence Day is here again, and as usual, Naij.com will be celebrating this historically great day with our readers by thrilling you all with our colorful Naij.com Independence Day Contest.

Just like last year, Naij.com readers were asked to send in pictures of them rocking their native attires, as well as their favorite things about our beautiful country Nigeria. The entries flooded in and they were all lovely, however, only 10 people made it to the finals.


Judging by traditional attires and completeness of all requirements stated to participate in this year’s contest, we present to you our top 10 Naij.com Independence Day contestants for 2015.


Contestant number 1

Emecheta Christian who chose to rock his native attires in colors that match our glorious Nigerian flag says he loves the determination and bravery of Nigerians, which he considers the major reason why Nigerians always excel in everything they do, no matter what it is or what country they reside in. He says “Nigerians are believers and great achievers, I love Nigeria”.

Oluwatosin Hadassah wrote a little poem to celebrate her country that goes thus:

“Nigeria my beloved country, a place where the inhabitants just can’t see all of its riches and glory. I love Nigeria because she is my fatherland, my dearest country full of wonderful and extraordinary beings who can survive anywhere under any condition.‎ I love Nigeria.”

Anyadike Uloma just cannot image anywhere else like Nigeria. Her favourite thing about her beloved country is that it is one place where you are truly free – freedom of movement, expression and acquisition. She loves her country because it is all she has.

Contestant number 4

Enejah Kingsley just cannot quantify how much love he has for his beloved country. He loves Nigeria so much because he is a true Nigerian and considers Nigeria a really blessed country. Kingsley says he is really proud to be Nigerian.

Contestant number 5

Eboh Anthonia Ogechi is in love with how Nigerians present themselves both locally and internationally. She says the understanding the country shares in times of conflict and disagreement is so great that it has kept us together; despite our different views about Nigeria we are still living in peace, and she is totally proud to be Nigerian.

Jack Opubo says he loves his country so much, but his favorite thing about Nigeria is our interesting and ever intriguing politics that always keep you on your toes.

Isongke Aniekan Udom loves his country Nigeria because it is a country filled with great men and women, and a country highly rich in mineral resources and green pastures. He says “Nigeria is a nice place to live in, I love my country Nigeria”.

Contestant number 8

Seun Okere loves Nigeria for the bright future ahead of us, the fact that people are becoming more enlightened each day and that the youths are more hands-on than ever before; she is pretty confident that not too long from now, Nigeria will become a country to be reckoned with globally. She says “I love Nigeria for the future I see”.

Contestant number 9

Ikeke Obichukwu loves the sense of oneness that Nigerians possess, our beautiful cultural values that are being passed on from generations to generations and remain rooted in us, and of course, our delicious traditional foods and delicacies.

Contestant number 10

Olatunde Oluwatosin says he is black and proud of his country Nigeria. He loves his country so much and prays every day that it keeps getting better while looking forward, with high anticipation, to a transformation. “God bless Nigeria” he adds.
