The vice president of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, Ex – President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Ibikunle Amosun on Saturday, graced the 25th coronation anniversary of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Adeniyi Sonariwo, with the Akarigbo saying they have no common agenda with Ijebu people over the creation of proposed Ijebu state.

Sonariwo said the position of Remo people is that the proposed Ijebu state if created, should have its capital at Ikenne in Remo.

Ikenne is the hometown of the late pantheon of yoruba politics and the first Premier of the Old Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Sonariwo said the other alternative is for the Remo people to have the right to choose the name of the new state expected to be carved out from Ogun state, while their partner (the Ijebu people) in the quest, have the capital at Ijebu-Ode.
The paramount ruler of Remoland, who made this known while delivering his coronation anniversary address where Awolowo was also given a posthumous award as General Grand Commander of Remoland, said he and his people will not shift grounds on their position regarding the proposed new state.
Sonariwo said: “this is an appropriate time and venue to discuss the creation of the so called Ijebu state planned to be carved out from the present Ogun state. I realize that the creation of states and local governments help the development of any area.
“As a result, when I was invited at the initial stage without previous consultation, to discuss the issue, I consulted the people present at the spot.
“It was agreed that I should support the issue with the aim to discuss the details and modalities, as to the appropriate name to bear and the location of the new state capital, later, all in the interest of even development of Remoland.
“Other delegates and I on the issue, discovered that we have no common agenda with our would-be partners on the issue. Ever since, we agreed wholeheartedly with the creation of the state if the capital will be placed at Ikenne Remo towards Odogbolu with the name Ijebu state.
“If this is not palatable to our would be partners of the other side and they want the capital to be placed in Ijebu-Ode, the Remo people should be allowed to choose the name of the new state. This is where we stand without shifting base.”
The vice-president who described the Akarigbo as an “exceptional individual,” and a king that has “consistently cultivated noble character,” said he always contribute progressives ideas which have been of immense benefits to Ogun state and its local governments.
He said: “I recall that when Oba Sonariwo first mounted the throne, a dispute was brewing between some indigenes of this town and some settlers from the Northern part of the country.
“The Oba must be praised for the manner and wisdom displayed in the quick resolution of the dispute. Since then and till this very moment, there has been no further altercation between indigenes and settlers.
“The elders here will recall also that at the time Iba Sonariwo’s ascension to the throne, there were several incidents of robbery all over the place. But the Oba has decisively dealt with that menace with the establishment of a vigilante corp to protect the entire land.
“By the special grace of God, peace and prosperity have reigned supreme and we can all see how Remo land has thrived admirably during his reign.”
Also, former President Olusegun Obasanjo who lauded Oba Sonariwo, recalled that the monarch supported him while in government between 1999 and 2007, saying without the support, he would probably not have succeeded.

Obasanjo commended the Akarigbo for remembering people like Chief Obafemi Awolowo for the posthumous award bestowed on the late politician and Premier of Old Western Region.
In his own address, Governor Ibikunle Amosun lauded Oba Sonariwo for fostering and sustaining harmonious inter – ethnic relations among the multi-ethnic group of Nigerians residing in Sagamu.
