The Department of State Services has transferred all the personnel who served as body guards to former president Goodluck Jonathan out of the presidential villa to various state commands.
Sources at the villa told Vanguard that the over 150 body guards who had been sidelined by their bosses in the DSS for a while now, were directed to leave the villa yesterday by President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide-de-camp.

According to the source, while a few of the body guards were posted to the headquarters of the DSS in the federal capital territory, Abuja, most of them were posted to various state commands of the service.
The source said: “Almost all of our personnel who were body guards in the villa have been transferred out of the state House. A new crop of body guards who were trained for the purpose have taken over. They will take over from the soldiers who were initially drafted to man the various beats hitherto occupied by the DSS personnel. That phase of transition is over”.
The security team of Buhari had earlier decided to use about 250 DSS personnel to form the core body guards of the president, unlike in the past when the military were very much involved in r]protecting Nigeria’s number one citizen.
The decision to replace ‘Jonathan’s men was reportedly necessitated by the experience the president had during the sallah prayers when he was almost mobbed by enthusiastic Nigerians who practically overwhelmed the military men that were protecting him.
President Buhari had commented after that episode that he would have been mobbed by the mammoth crowd at the prayer ground if not for God’s protection.
